OcJams, here is the deal if youd like to know. 4 bits of flying you'll do.

1. Contact - Straight ins, over head patters, stalls, spins, aerobatics, 6 solos (2 pattern, 4 area).

2. Insturment - all the boring **** with a hood over your head.

3. Navigation - 6 cross country legs, one VFR, and a VFR low level.

4. Formation - 15 hops and a solo. ****ing hard, but fun.

Try for the tweet if you want to fly an oldie but a goodie. Try for the T-6 if you like to not swet all day long.

As for the E 6 community.. not that popular out of Vance, and not very common, but, a dude sellected them a few days ago.. so.. its doable. It means not getting to go back to the Navy for training though.

NavyVance ...... you da man! thanks for that info. What other stuff can you tell me about it? The stand ups? What time does the day usually start? Is there a steep learning curve since the AF guys go there with a private license already....and what are the most challenging aspects of it all? Basically, any info you have....your experiences..etc. if you have time

ocjams.. let me rephrase. Vance is Primary.. not.. "intermediates"... Intermediate.. Is being phased out for the most part as far as I know.. and.. even when it did exhist.. it was never in a primary aircraft (T-34, T-37, etc.)

Actually, when Intermediate did exist, it was done in the T-37 right there at Vance. In fact you would select your Navy track (i.e. helos, jets, mpa) before your AF classmates, and then start Intermediate right away or PCS right away.

If you have a choice between the tweet and the t-6, I strongly reccomend the tweet.

now thats bad gouge

Just about all of my instructors at moody who flew tweets in primary would probably disagree with you. Texan is an awesome airplane and its a blast to fly. Not to knock anybody's opinion but i have not heard anything good about the tweet from anybody (gear up landings to flameouts), hell the T-6 has an awesome air conditioner, it works better than the one in my car.

that's not bad gouge, that's OPINIONATED gouge.

Fly whatever the fvck you end up with. Do it to the best of your ability. Sounds like prop advanced guys trying to play a T-44 vs a C-12, aka verbal diarhrea. Tell ya what, let's not have this thread degenerate into "my trainer vs. your trainer/Navy vs AF/women are the devil vs I love my wife/Shampoo vs Conditioner". Odds of you getting to pick where you go are slim to nonezo. Play the hand you're dealt. Big picture, big picture, big picture (WINGS).

Oh, and about the airfoce guys haveing a PPL.. dont worry. it just.. doesnt matter atall. And besides, your NSS has absolutly /nothing/ to do with how the AF guys are doing anyways. You are only ranked against abunch of other Navy guys with the same 25 hours that you have.

I'll be hitting the flight line in two weeks in the T-6. I was lucky, I had the option of picking either the tweet or the texan when I arrived. Im really looking forward to start flying it.

Side story about the T-6. I was doing an out and in with an IP who had just transitioned from the T-34 to the T-6. We landed and completely blew by the taxi way. We had to back taxi on the runway. Over the ICS the IP goes, "Damn, I'm still getting used to this thing." Always good to hear since the EP for departing the runway is to pull the CFS.
