I'm looking for a new Camcorder to buy, both for my baby comming up, as well as well as some b!tchin' enviromental shots (read in the plane). I was looking at one JVC HD3 when they had this on the bottom of specs
"Everio cannot be used in low pressure areas (generally places that are more than 3,000 meters (10,000 feet) above sea level)."My Question is has anybody had a problem with this with other HD or newer cameras. Second does anybody have any recommendations for a camera (looking for both snapshots and video, want to edit, fit in a nav bag, and at least 720p).

Kinda surprising to see that...My guess is that if there is some sort of liquid in the camera, maybe the LCD display, there might be a problem....assuming the cabin is not pressurized.

I have the Sony HDR-SR12 High-Def Hard Drive camera. I checked my specs and it also says do not turn on in low pressure environments (>3,000 meters), because it may damage the hard disk.

To be quite honest when I got it I didn't even think of the pressure effect on the camera (thanks for pointing it out!). But I think it will do fine for my purpose (film flight school as I go...). I can't record on my motorcycle because it vibrates too much (need a better mount).

I recommend Sony because the picture is quite amazing! Even my friends were impressed. The thing I like about the hard-drive is there aren't any tapes to fumble with and it can store over 14 hours of HD (highest quality)!! The only downside is you need the software that works with the new AVCHD codec (just more $$ to spend).
It takes decent still images in photo mode, it even takes images during recording mode with 16:9 aspect.

Good luck with your search.

I know a good bit about HDV and video editing, so fire away if you've got questions. There's always going to be a trade-off between quality and size, so cameras that are compact enough to use/mount in the cockpit aren't going to deliver the best quality image. I have a fairly large Canon XH-A1 which weighs about 8 pounds. I can take it in the cockpit and it shoots professional quality images, but it's not something you can velcro to your helmet or the glareshield.
