I hope they ditch the CGI and film it in the air. I think there's about 10 B-17s and a couple of B-24s still flying.

Yeah…but…you can't really do the whole "mass bomber box thing" and all of the Luftwaffe/escort fighter thing without CGI. There was a whole heck of a lot of CGI in BOB…and none of it pissed me off.

If by BOB you mean Battle of Britain, I know there were special effects, but there was also a lot of real flying. Many Spanish Me-109s and He-111s, Spits and Hurricanes. The CGI doesn’t piss me off….but I can tell that it’s not real. I know they will have to use CGI (and I guess for the better, a B-17 was lost filming “Memphis Belle”) I just hope that there is real flying is on film.

By BOB I meant "Band of Brothers"…all the jumps and stuff...

I do "roger up" to the actual flying in "Battle of Britain"…great movie. I doubt we could do that sort of thing again… Also "Tora x3". Lots of very close friends who flew in that one...

If there are any dudes I trust to "do it right", that list would include Hanks, Spielberg and Peter Jackson (still rumored to wanting to do a re-make of "The Dambusters". I can dream, yes?)

This looks awesome. Can't wait.

I do wish that one day they'd do something about Korea before all those guys pass away. They aren't much younger than the WW2 crowd and it saddens me that they aren't recognized, especially since the "what-if-we-hadn't-fought" sits on the north side of the DMZ.

^^^ Concur. I guess the question would be if there's a "key unit", large or small, that was in it long enough to make a compelling multi-part thing…you know the deal…follow a certain bunch for enough of it that you can build some empathy for those glorious bastards.

Absent that, probably a good story to be told about the Pusan breakout and the drive north to link up.

Read a couple of good histories of the Marines in the Korean War...I thought the 1st Marines would make a great one to follow.

WWII "strategic" bombing was generally about the greatest waste of men & materiel in the history of warfare, based on what I've read - and, in 69 years that's rather a lot. The 8th AF lost more personnel than the Marines in the Pacific Theater. And the 8th was just bombing in the daytime. At night, Bomber Harris' Brits took over, and - God Bless them - they were often lucky to bomb the right city. With the exception of the low-level B-24 raid on Ploesti (Romania), the loss of men and the relative inaccuracy of the bombing convinced me that Yossarian got it exactly right in Catch-22. JMHO, it'll be interesting to see how Hanks & Speilberg play it.

Yet it had enough people convinced that it was the future, that getting rid of the Navy and Marines was seriously discussed.
