It is incredible. It is a very moving account of the tragedy that befell the crew of the Indianapolis. It is an awsome book.
Man that was a moving book, what was equally tragic is what happened to Captian McVay, the CO. By an act of Congress a few years ago the court martial was expunged from his record, thanks to the efforts of a twelve year old boy.
The same thing happened to the crew of the heavy cruiser Houston and the light cruiser Juneau, the ship the Sullivan brothers were on. Part of the crew of the Houston was rescued by the Japanese, only to be thrown into the Japanese labor camps.
I have an original copy of Pittsburgh Sun-Telegraph with Peace in the headline and just below the fold is a a picture of the Indy and story about the sinking.
