That may be, but does anyone outside of Texas really know / care?
It drives my roomate crazy, but when Texas comes up, this is what a lot of people think of:
And people who think the above is all that Texas has to offer only display their own ignorance.
But youre probably right, Texas doesnt have anything to offer. Well aside from maybe:
The second largest population of any state in the union.
The largest public university in the Nation (UT Austin). Countless other universities many boasting top tier graduate programs in medicine, law, and public policy.
The largest concentration by far of the nations energy sector in Houston.
Innovators of the highest caliber in the high-tech industry. Firewire was developed in Austin by Apple which has its second largest site in the world in Austin, Dell is headquartered just north of Austin in Round Rock. Nearly every other high tech company in the world has some presence in Texas. Motorola, Texas Instruments, Samsung, Microsoft, HP, and the list goes on and on and on.
We have one of the largest corporate hubs in the nation up in Dallas.
We have one of the only profitable airlines in the nation (SWA) hq'd in Texas.
The other Texans and I could go on and on about what Texas has to offer, but when it comes down to it, those who think Texans are just a bunch of slack jawed yokels only display their own idiocy by holding that opinion.
You know I feel generally sorry for people who dont come from a state like Texas or Virginia. Because where the rest of the nation can take pride in being from the United States, we can take pride in our states as well as the Union.
But dont mind me, I dont have most of my teeth, I talk with a drawl, never completed the 3rd grade and my dad sits outside the house with his 3 buddies drinking beer constantly. Or so you non-Texans must think.
