Air Wing 5 in front of Mt. Fuji. Any of you guys ever had the chance to fly in that area?

Flying in Japan was great. I was in CVW-5's premier squadron, VA-115. We flew by Fujiyama often, but that was nothing compared to flying low levels in the Japanese 'Alps.'

The world's greatest cross country was to launch from Atsugi, fly a low level in the Japanese Alps, then head to Okinawa, have some Kobi Beef, then off to Cubi Pt. via a low level in the northern Philippines, a Nuke Special and Cubi Dog at the O'Club, a swim and a massage at the BOQ, then out to Magsaysay Street for the E Ticket rides at Disneyland Westpac style.

But it'll always be in his background. You can never escape!

That maybe true. I've seen updated bubba lists still listing guys that transferred to other communities long ago. Still a chance for that long sought after HSL DH job, MB. ;)

OK. So the fixed wing guys went to 7 squadrons and got 1 a/c each to fly by Fuji.

HSL-51 executed Operation Darken Sky one sunny morning in 2000.

Count 'em. 12 SH-60Bs (2 from the HSL-49 det that used to work from the HSL-51 hangar) and 2 H-3's. The only thing in the hangar was the queen and some oil stains.

Honorable mention to JMSDF VX-51 who provided a helo and photographer.

Rock on Warlords!

Correct me if I'm wrong but so have most ready room discussions I've been a part of.........or paddles shack on the ship....or a 6 man state room. Then again, I was probably at least partly or maybe entirely responsible for the discussion going south in a hurry. We are just an extension of those ready rooms :)
