Good food/booze in PCola?

Okay, since we had a cooking thread, I think I can ask this without too many questions about how wide a stance I take.

Where do you all shop for food in P-Cola? Is there a Whole Foods-ish store in the area? Failing that, where can I get imported beer? There's two decent Vietnamese shops on Cervantes that carry asian produce and condiments but that's been about it. Joe Patti's, obviously, for the seafood.

I'm on leave and was eyeing a case of belgian ale in Whole Foods the other day - and wondered how many would fit in my suitcase and if I could trust TSA not to break every bottle.

Everman is a co-op food store that has a pretty good selection of stuff, not nearly as nice as a whole foods but it still gets the job done.

Commissaries don't carry alcohol.

That, and they tend to not carry jack for exotics, unless its Filipino in nature.

There is also a pretty good wine/beer shop near the mall next to the starbucks on Bayou.

I was actually curious where to go for liquor. Coming from AZ and CA, I am used to buying liquor at the grocery store, Wal-mart, church, wherever. I am not used to the FL (and other states) laws that limit liquor sales. Where is the best/cheapest place to go buy liquor in p-cola?

I feel ya brother. Just moved from NorCal myself and my wife is a major foodie and into organics and stuff. Evermans Co-Op is the best organic type foods store around and their prices are even better than some in Oakland. Thats on Garden St near downtown. No Whole Foods, etc. The Commissary has a surprising selection of organic foods (e.g. Organic Valley dairy products, organic beef in the freezer case, Amy's frozen meals). Also they have Peet's! They have some organics and liquor at Wal-Mart. You can find Sierra around but no Fat Tire (p.s. my wife says she'll cook you dinner if you bring us a case of Fat Tire). Good Luck and do a search for the "Restaurants" thread which is mostly about p-cola.

Oh and I haven't been yet but Four Winds Market near the mall is supposed to have a good selection of specialty foods.

If you want anything other than mass market beer/liquor with a national following you're gonna have to go someplace other than the NEX. The selection is pretty limited...

Places I'd recommend:

Blue Angel Liquor (right outside NASP back gate in that strip mall by Walmart) has a pretty nice selection and reasonable prices.

Same goes for "Fusion" liquor up in Pace (just opened, on HWY 90). I got them to special order some imported stuff for me. Hell, they even sell cigars if you're too lazy to order them online.

Ugh.
Wow... you all were able to go into Ever'man and NOT get stared at by the local hippies?

Perhaps it was his haircut that gave him away... but my husband refuses to go w/me b/c of the dirty looks he got.
