Hey all, someone sent this to me, I thought it was pretty interesting. My opinion, make the middle east so poor, all they can sell is glass.

[ie: for those who don't know: sand + heat + pressure / (1 Thermal Nuclear Warhead) x 3 = GLASS]

Although Lori does have a good point, she is full of ****. One thing most people don't realize is that even if you buy Exxon gasoline at a premium price, your gasoline could have been refined by Phillips 66, Conoco, or any number of refiners. Generally, all of the oil refined into gasoline in the US (whether it be domestic or foreign oil) is pumped to a common terminal (regardless of who the producer is). The gasoline in this terminal is then distributed to gas stations everywhere. The only difference between your gas and that of your provider's competitor is the additive packages used after it was drawn from the terminal. Therefore, as long as you're buying regular unleaded...IT DOESN'T MATTER WHO MADE THE GASOLINE...it could have come from any number of companies. There is no secret to making unleaded gasoline anymore. Each producer has certain specifications on vapor pressure, VOC levels, heating value, octane rating, etc. that they must meet to ensure that everyone is pumping the same comodity into the common terminal. These specs. are also strictly enforced. To make a long story short, I'm telling you that we are all funding terrorists. Another point I might mention is that although some companies do not import terrorist oil, they are all involved in overseas operations...including the middle east (e.g. gas to liquids, polyolefins, etc.) There is simply no way to buy any product in the US that does not in some way fund terrorist operations. If you want to stop terrorists, vote for your friendly Republicans. Let's fu**in' roll!!!

Mari - your interest in protecting the environment is notable. However, all of the tree-huggers in the world cannot save the environment while all holding hands. We as Americans are one of the most environmentally responsible cultures in existence. I spent a full year working at one of the largest oilfields discovered in North America over the past decade. We had 22 wells which each produced about 3,000 BBL/day at full rate with the assistance of high pressure water injection. The gas collected off of these wells was re-injected into the ground per EPA standards (which costs a lot of money to do) so that it can be recollected one day when it is needed. In Saudi and other places in the middle east, a typical well can produce 100,000+ BBL/day without the assistance of water injection, CO2 injection, or anything. Since the Saudi's only have a market for oil and no interest in protecting the environment, they literally burn the natural gas that is produced in conjunction with the crude. I've seen pictures of flares in the middle east bunched together by the dozens each wasting millions of standard cubic feet of gas each day and pouring heavy smoke into the atmoshpere. In one minute, a single Saudi flare can incinerate more hydrocarbons than an SUV will consume in a full year of drag racing. Until we can convince Saudi and other middle eastern countries that environmental responsibility is a necessity, we all might as well drive Corvettes, eat juicy hamburgers, and wink at the neighbor's wife from time to time. Ohhh say can you seeeeee...........
