Garand Repair Question

I was under the impression that they would have another batch inbound in October; is this no longer the case?

Its certainly possible, I can only base my statements on their public information. I'd love for it to happen, and M1's will likely be available for some time in very limited numbers and the corresponding prices. What I meant is that I think we have seen the last of the sub 500$, good looking Garands. Prices are rising as quantity and quality go down. They send monthly sales updates to an email list which is a sort of "status of the apparatus". Here is the latest.

LATEST CMP SALES NEWS - 29 June 2007.
M1 GARAND PRICE INCREASES. Although CMP is not currently accepting any
orders for M1 Garand rifles, we do expect to again begin taking orders
later this year. In response to customer inquiries about rumored price
increases, we are announcing new pricing at this time. for additional
details, please see
http://www.odcmp.com/Services/Rifles/m1garand.htm.

M1 GARAND RECEIVERS. The price of Grade B stripped receivers (item
RM1RECSAB) will increase to $195 effective 9 July 2007. The current price
of $125 will be honored for all in-store orders through 8 July and
mail-orders postmarked before 9 July 2007. Less than 1,500 Grade B
receivers remain in inventory. For description and additional details see
http://www.odcmp.com/Services/Rifles/m1garand.htm.

M1 GARAND DRILL RIFLES. The price of M1 Garand Drill Rifles (item
RM1DRILL) will increase to $345 effective 9 July 2007. The current price of
$295 will be honored for all in-store sales through 8 July and mail
orders postmarked before 9 July 2007. Only 550 Garand drill rifles remain
in stock. For description and details, please see
http://www.odcmp.com/Services/Rifles/m1garand.htm.

GARAND SALES AT 2007 NATIONAL MATCHES. CMP has assembled a few hundred
M1 Garand rifles for sale ""only" at Camp Perry during the National
Matches. We expect to have approximately 200 (Rack, Field, and Service
Grade) on the store racks for 9 July and another 800 for 28 July. Because
of the limited quantity, a purchase limit of 1 rifle per customer will
be in effect for this sale. We will also have a small quantity of
National Match and M1D Garands available at the CMP North Store beginning
28 July. A limit of one per customer for these models will also be in
effect.

LC .30-06 SELLING OUT QUICKLY. Lake City .30-06 ammunition is no
longer available by the case for mail order. Some cases are still available
for purchase and pickup at the North Store. We expect that this email
will generate a flood of Estore orders this weekend - resulting in our
selling out of the remaining hundreds of cans of LC still in inventory
before 4 July. HXP .30-06 will last for several years.

CARBINE UPDATE. As of 3:00 PM Friday, 29 June 2007, we are shipping
carbines for orders received on 4 May and processing orders received on 8
May. We expect to have all Inland carbine orders shipped by 31 July.
Next manufacturer to be released will be Underwood. Less than 3,200
available. Price for Underwood carbines is $565, plus $22.95 S&H. Date we
will begin accepting orders will be announced at the end of July, 2007
http://www.odcmp.com/rifles/carbine.htm

SOUTH STORE CLOSED. A reminder that the CMP South store in Anniston AL
will be closed 22 July, 2007 through 8 August, 2007. Many of the CMP
South staff will be at Camp Perry supporting the National Matches.

OK, that makes sense. I was on GunBroker.com and was amazed at the prices for a relatively good M1, now that I can finally afford one. Sheesh . . .

.....Additionally, the latest CMP sales report is looking rather grim. No Garands are available for order, 200 or so will be sold at Camp Perry here next week and an additional batch at the end of the month but for all practical purposes it looks like the M1 glory days are over at CMP. I hope you didn't wait.

And that makes me think I will hang onto my Garands a while longer ... I was going to sell them all and keep just one ... but now??? The prices are going to go up exponentially for the next few years .... better than diamonds or real estate.

Update, did not make it to the range but did order a new clip retaining pin and spring from Ebay and that's WITHOUT staying at a Holiday Inn Express. Hope it cures it.

Update to the update, I finially got off my lazy ass and swapped out the clip spring and clip. (watching The Godfather puts me in a gun mood) It cycles manualy great, something it didn't do before. After the LAST round it ejects! The old pin didn't look too bad but the spring looked about 3/16th shorter! I'll try and shoot off a few enblocs tomorrow if the neighbors aren't around. I might have gotten away with a 10 dollar 5 minute fix.:)
