Any chance they'll take new packages?
Good question - I asked about re-dating/re-signing docs that were about to be over 6 mos. old and OR said no official word yet. For people without MEPS clearance, might be shut out between now and then.

anyone working through NIFR Mid-Atlantic for their package? Should be interviewing with the region OIC soon and wanted to see if anyone has advice for how to prepare.

Here are some tips for your packages and interviews:

  • When sending in your package, please do your best to take high quality scans of everything. Make it easier for the people reviewing your package
  • Make sure your package is complete. Never send an incomplete package. It baffles me why someone would send in an incomplete package
    • Age wavier
    • SF-86 submitted
    • Signed Interviewer’s Appraisal sheet by an officer of your primary designator choice
    • Ensure your Interviewer’s Appraisal sheets are current
    • If you are already in the Navy Reserve (ie, Enlisted)
      • make sure you have completed your initial training requirements and qualifications for your rate
      • make sure you include all of your evals and awards
    • If you are prior service (Navy Reserve, Active Duty, etc.), include all of your evals and awards
  • Please have a good understanding of all Information Warfare Community designators
  • Ensure your designator choice is consistent throughout your entire package
  • Your motivational statement should clearly articulate why the you want a commission, the Information Warfare Community, and your primary designator choice. You also need to address your career aspirations, personal strengths, skills, leadership philosophy, and how you will contribute throughout your Naval career
  • If you are asking for references from people, please use DD Form 370 because often times, recommendation letters do not address many of the items in the DD Form 370. It is extremely helpful to obtain references from someone knowledgeable or experienced in your primary designator choice as they will be able to objectively measure your strengths
  • Do not leave out anything adverse. Explain it. Do not leave anything unexplained
  • Clearly articulate your ability to balance initial Reserve training requirements with your day job or whatever else is going on
    • All DCO's attend Office Development School (ODS) which is about 5 weeks
    • IP's attend the active duty IP Basic School which is about 20 weeks and you will attend on Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders which has some significant financial impacts versus going on other orders types for courses this long (e.g., ADOS)
    • INTEL's attend RNIOBC Phase 1 which is 30 days, followed by RNIOBC Phase 2 (Capstone) which is 2 weeks
    • CW's attend CWOBC which is about 20 weeks
  • Clearly articulate your ability to balance mobilizing with your day job or whatever else is going on
