This is hilarious. I just looked at the picture with all of his ribbons. The only medal he'd probably recieved (National Defense Service Medal) is actually missing from the stack. What's up with that?This is disgusting. Reminds me of this report a few years back about this clown pretending to be a Tomcat Driver and cleaning out his fiance'/wife's savings in the process.
Us USCG JG's are just that damn good...I'd be interested to see the service histories for those w/ 4+ rows (prior enlisted service??)
(and to be realistic- It's not hard to have 2 plus rows after an operational unit- NDR,Pistol,Rifle, Sea Service, and an Letter of Commendation or Achievement Medal if you did good things at your first unit. Lots of us current JG's also got the Presidential Unit Citation due to Katrina)
It seemed to be a common theme with the guys I saw, and the only prior service was their sea tour before flight school. Reaching back through the cobwebs of my memory, I know most had both Commendation and Achievement medals along with some unit commendations and others. Between that and the 'tude some had, my first impression of some Coasties was not good. They have since made up for it.

I'm sad to hear that they didn't leave you with a good impression- but I am glad that since then that has changed.
I showed up with an Achievement medal for a drug bust and a Team Commendation for some projects I worked on. Everything else was a more or less "gimmie"-All the basics I listed before. Can't talk about my own 'tude- No one would believe me anyways...Hope I haven't gotten anyone outta shape...and I hope they'd let me know if I had.
On that note- I hope this guy gets his ass handed to him over the original post---and it's only about 5 hours till the game!!

Some kid goes home for Christmas leave or HARP duty, and then a few months later gets killed a motorcycle crash. Mom wants to know why his uniform is not "right" at his funeral and why he is not wearing all of his awards. Problem is that his uniform IS right, and those are all of his awards.
Dealing with the death of a child and learning that your kid was lying about his service at the same time is not a pretty thing. It's also not a fun part of my job.

I've heard of things like that. Somebody's grandpa always told his kids about the Medal of Honor he won in Korea. Grandpa passes away, the kids can't find his Medal, but want to make sure he has one on him for the funeral. So they call the MOH Society to get a duplicate, the Society of course has a list of all legit awardees...you see where this is going.
