For those who have purchased from the CMP...

Did you just put "Military" for Club/State Association on the order form, or did you put something else. Also, for the supporting stuff it seems that just sending a photocopy of my passport & military ID would suffice. What did you send in?

Sending a copy of your military ID and Passport covers all the bases. But like Bates said, I called to confirm it.

I haven't purchased from them in a couple of years but I bought several Garands from them the last time I did. They make it as painless as possible.

As a vet I sent them a copy of my DD-214 and used the Garand Collectors Association to satisfy my club membership requirement. The GCA will call CMP with proof of your membership plus you get a cool quarterly publication from them as well. Membership form here:

As MB said they are great to deal with and if you have questions I'd just call and ask. Bad juju to send in a package that isn't correct. That said they just started taking orders for M1 Carbines again today so they will be VERY busy processing those.

CMP hosts a great forum as well. Here:

Just be sure you use the search function before you ask.......wait, wait....never mind. :D

Would be neat to get a carbine -- this is the only place to really get an M1 Garand or Carbine at a reasonable price and in good condition?

I just have a Remington one in delivery right now. They just got a bunch of Winchester carbines available now.

CMP has carbines listed in the $500 range. If you go to a gun show you'll pay way more than that. The only difference is that you'll have to clean up the rifle you get from CMP...but thats the fun part!

I remember seeing Carbines at gun shows in Florida starting in the 700's. CMP is a great deal.

I had the best time sitting with a friend of mine just sitting around cleaning and talking. The only bad part was that he didn't get to shoot it before I left. However when I get back hell be able to shoot the m1, the carbine and the 1903 from my collection. :)
