For the incoming single SNA's - PSD stuff

There has been a lot of confusion about housing in Pensacola. So please, what is going on with SNA's having to live in the Q? Does this also apply to NFO's? Does this apply to anyone? My ROTC unit has been told about ten different things regarding this, please clarify!!

Read my 1st post. No SNA's right now are being forced to live in the Q, at least not ROTC types. I'm pretty sure the OCS guys are free to live where they want as well. FO's weren't in the same boat, as they have follow on orders to NASP for Primary. You do have to walk your butt down to the BOQ office and have them sign a form, but after that once you check in w/PSD they should get your BAH started. This is of course subject to change, and we'll see what happens w/ the next big wave of spring grads.

It is worth noting however that your orders to API are TEMDUINS, pending your assignment to Primary (they burn those orders when you start API). This means that you do not get a Home of Record move or any other type of PCS if you aren't prior E, until you move to Primary. You do get a 600# move allowance, but that won't be paid out until you hit primary, like everything else. So to put things in perspective, I live in a big ass house in a nice neighborhood on Perdido Key w/ a pool in the backyard, but I sleep on a sleeping bag in an empty room. On the other hand, all my roomattes (who are FO's) have furniture, beds, TV's, etc. Something to think about....

No. SNFO's arrive in P-cola w/ follow-on orders to NASP (right across base from NASC) for their primary training. You will be allowed to make a PCS move from your commissioning source. Living off base shouldn't be a problem for you if that's what you want.

Is this any different for married guys who aren't prior enlisted? Have you heard anything recently about those types getting follow-on orders to Whiting right away?

Yes, you will absolutely have follow on orders, most likely to Whiting, just like your prior E counterparts. Plenty of non-married prior-E's go to Corpus, so its doesn't have anything to do w/ prior-ness.
 
Never count on your NROTC unit knowing WTF is going on. It's nothing against them....actually its probably good on them for not making shit up and telling it to you.

As a SNFO, the chances of them making you live in the Q are slim to none. There's too many commands and schools at NASP and they need the rooms for the TAD folks that come in.
 
^ +1. The Q is packed right now, and I don't even know that you could get in if you wanted to.....I know I was turned away for the weekend I arrived here (before I could get moved into my new house) and had to stay at a hotel. Navy lodge and Corry Station were the same story
 
Married guy were getting follow on to Whiting. Since they were married at the beginning of OCS (for those that do) that have been getting BAH with dependents for a while and it doesn't change. Recently they have been taking married guys with follow on to Whiting and sending them to Corpus.
 
Yeah, Tom brings up a good point....even if your orders say your final destination is Whiting (or Corpus for that matter), it is still subject to change according to the needs of you know who....I have heard of a guy who did have his Whiting orders swapped for Corpus when he arrived here. It sounds like Whiting is getting overfilled at the moment, so the trend seems to be towards sending any and all singles to Corpus.

Don't listen to this noise about commissioning source. It may be relevant to something -- but the 6-10 days of per diem issue is fairly universal.

BUPERS will cut your orders the week before you leave API (or that same week, possibly). Even though you know your final destination a the beginning of the program, your orders do not exist. You will not be getting per diem for your entire time at API -- would that make sense?

Of course not -- but nothing in Pensacola does anyway. It's a different dimension...where married SNAs are entitled to five months of per diem.

Thanks for the clarification....that sounds a little bit more like what I have heard from others who recently finished API. Oh well....
