Interesting. Metallica is awsome, especially with a whole symphony behind them (S & M concert).

Yeah, that is probably my favorite. It is awesome, wish I could have saw it live.

Check out Apocalyptica (limewire etc). They're a string quartet that does a pretty impressive job of covering Metallica.

Yeah, I've heard them before. They're, um, interesting. But then again, I wasn't a huge fan of Metallica--S&M either. I guess you can say I'm a purist. I've been a fan since Kill 'em All and Cliff Burton. I even own a copy of a rare demo tape with Dave Mustaine on guitar.

But from a purely artistic standpoint, you're right, Apocalyptica does a fantastic job capturing the essence of Metallica on stringed instruments usually reserved for classical scores. Just as Michael Kamen did a pretty superb job of pairing a sypmphony orchestra with a metal band. Artistically, it's well done. Metallically, not so much. Like I said. I'm a purist.

I have the Apocalyptica CD, they're pretty good. Did they get rid of Jason Newstead? I saw an album with someone else listed as bass the other day and was surprised.

Yes, Jason is gone. They didn't get rid of him, rather he left on his own.
His reason:
Jason Newstead said:
"Due to private and personal reasons, and the physical damage that I have done to myself over the years while playing the music that I love, I must step away from the band. This is the most difficult decision of my life, made in the best interest of my family, myself, and the continued growth of Metallica. I extend my love, thanks, and best wishes to my brothers: James, Lars, and Kirk and the rest of the Metallica family, friends, and fans whom have made these years so unforgettable."
