Fascinating article concerning the future of Florida State. Ironic that the ACC lobbied against expanding the playoffs. Even more is that the SEC wanted FSU to join back in the early ‘90’s, but the Seminoles thought the ACC’s basketball reputation was too good to pass up.

Like @JTS11 I’m going for a bold prediction…based on the story posted by @Randy Daytona there will only be two NCAA football conferences within the next three years (National and American) and at the end of each season every school will get to roll some dice to see which one they will be in the next year.

I honestly need to know if these "student athletes", as the NCAA makes sure we know they are scholars first ?...are they properly reporting NIL money to the IRS? Do they get W-2's or some equivalent?

Guessing probably not. Hell, I've heard there is NIL money in the HS ranks now. Who the fuck is funding this shit? It's like cryptocurrency, I truly don't understand it.
Same with the conference realignments. It's a greedy mess.

In Georgia, NIL at the high school level is legal and within the rules. My theory is that once you start taking money to play, then you lose the " he's just a kid " defense. Supposedly the next big challenge will be the years of eligibility for college players. It's not inconceivable that they could make more money staying in school for 10 years, than going to the next professional league. Some people are great in college, but not suited for the NFL.

My tipping point will be when a player changes teams at halftime and comes out for the team they were just playing against.

I want to see Washington take the championship, but time will tell.

This an interesting article about how some of the dynamics of NIL are playing out in NCAA football. The fact that donors get some tax benefits is disgusting. This needs to be looked into.

I guess I'm somewhat torn on the issue. The athletes should be able to capitalize on their NIL regardless of what sport (see Livy Dunne or Caitlin Clark), but these NIL SuperPACs tied to specific programs seems wrong. And donors should DEFINITELY not be able to write off ANY of their donations.

Maybe, the programs can set up rows of sports gambling kiosks at the stadiums to bring in some more dough, or Saban and Deion can do more AFLAC commercials... ?

Imagine if the transfer portal was broader…and opened years before…

BREAKING NEWS
Erich Hartmann enters the transfer portal. After three years of playing for the Nazis, including destroying over 300 enemy aircraft, Hartmann has decided to enter the portal. According to the blonde haired, blue-eyed sharpshooter, “Coaching changes at Germany have made me rethink my future options. I will always be grateful for what the National Socialist gave me, but after the ‘44 season it is time to explore new options.” Hartmann has made it clear that he has no interest in playing for the Italian’s or the recently emerging French teams. “England,” Hartmann said, “would be acceptable but I’m reaching as high as possible and hope to hear from the American coach soon.”

Wow…Michigan put on a corker of a game. I thought they were smoked at the 4th quarter but they certainly rallied. Great game.
Yeppers…great game. To be honest, I really wanted Alabama to beat Michigan tonight since our youngest goes to Ohio State and Michigan beat Ohio State this year…but there’s no disputing it…Michigan has a great football team and they played a great game tonight.
