What is a dry suit?
It's important to you that your backpack is a matching color to your flight suit? ?I understand that it's mostly common sense rules, and uniform regs as far as flight suits are concerned are largely organization/squadron dependent, but had a quick question regarding the colors.
I'm currently in the market for a new EDC pack/flight backpack. Big Navy regulations say that backpacks can only be Black or Type III pattern.
I'd like to get a coyote or olive colored pack rather than a black one considering we have flight gear that matches either color.
Has anyone run into any issues regarding this or do we just assume it doesn't apply?
Just keep in mind...the last time a military put fashion over function, our grandparents kicked their asses all the way across Europe. It's important to you that your backpack is a matching color to your flight suit?
I mean, it's not super important. But if there's anything i've learned about wanting to use civilian stuff in uniform, it's that optics are important to those uniform prigs as you put it. If it's the same color as issued stuff, I feel like the less people will ask questions, considering there's no actual reg for flight gear. It's important to you that your backpack is a matching color to your flight suit? ?
I'm not really a prig when it comes to letter of the law uniform issues, but you know there's going to be a CPO or two that will take great delight in telling you that you're AFU. Why invite that kind of drama into your life?
Also remember that AWx3 (or any enlisted bubba) can't nod and smile when Master Chief calls them on uniform infractions. I'm not a hardliner (see Red Wing thread), but generally you shouldn't put yourself in a place where you're getting away with something just because you're an officer and no one senior to you is calling you out on it. It erodes trust. It's important to you that your backpack is a matching color to your flight suit? ?

Hugo Boss is still in business, but without government contracts.Just keep in mind...the last time a military put fashion over function, our grandparents kicked their asses all the way across Europe.

If we're in a spot where the goat locker is pushing the ready room around, you have more serious problems, because your XO is a coward. No, "aviation culture" isn't an excuse for looking like a bag of ass, but if Master Chief is being unreasonably petty about gigging folks on their uniforms, then there are people in the front office who rank Master Chief, and can pull him/her aside for recalibration. Also remember that AWx3 (or any enlisted bubba) can't nod and smile when Master Chief calls them on uniform infractions. Meh... there's a balance to be struck. Ultimately, Officers should be setting the example. Where I've seen this go awry is when certain CPOs don't fully understand the uniform regs in the first place. Kids these days.My favorite is white socks with the flight suit. Had some Chiefs damn near have a stroke when they saw me wearing them. One was being almost disrespectful to the point I made him pull it up on the computer in front of everyone. He quickly became very apologetic.
