there was a guy in Newport recently who got dropped from aviation who's now gonna be allowed to go to BUDS. However, he is a prior, and he had someone to vouch for him, or something...... @Mouselovr care to chime in?

Yes.

Someone in my class did it. He was not a prior.

We went through OCS at the same time as a well-connected SEAL who assisted him.
However, I do not see any reason one wouldn't be able to submit a SEAL package even without the connections.

His process looked a little like this:
DQ from aviation with NAMI
Pass the spec ops equivalent of the PRT and throw together a package for SOAS (SEAL selection tool)
Package gets accepted to attend SOAS
Go to SOAS and get picked up for BUD/s
Go to BUD/s

keep in mind too, that if someone does that, then they are not getting commissioned until they finish SOAS, so they would be an "OCS grad" till then

...For a whole two weeks at SOAS. If you've got "what it takes" to be a SEAL, this shouldn't bother you in the slightest.
