Speaking about email - did any of the other GS types receive this odd email today? @robav8r @Flash etc.?

That leads to this?
This article may explain why you received that e-mail, and what's going on at OPM:

Chuck, dont reply!...or this will be your next meeting with the DOGE Bobs. 😃

Unless folks were already planning to retire or leave I don't know too many folks who would take it.

Government civilians only, Executive branch-wide. Remote and telework cancelled pending justification process. Suspect it will be a high bar for those not under Reasonable Accommodation for disability. Some collective bargaining agreements include remote work stipulations. This will probably end up in the courts on those.

It'll be a tough knot to unwind, a lot of government agencies shed office space in the past few years to save money since many of their personnel went remote. There are also agreements with some employee groups and unions that can't just be cancelled.

Good news especially for us GS folks and Reservists...

I’ve been using Navy Virtual Desktop (NVD) for several months, and enjoy not having to use MFA to check my Navy.mil account. Using NVD also provides VPN services. I’m not sure if the AF has anything like it.

We do. Same thing and it's great. Of course Microsoft is making $ hands and feet on the deal.

There is a DoD wide pilot for a virtual desktop phone app that delivers email and the like on your personal phone. A little kludgy but very convenient. It's an Army run pilot and as long as you have a NIPR account you re eligible to join the pilot. It's called Hypori.

At the risk of being a naysayer - why would you want to expand the portability for your work accounts? I get the access for DFAS and medical type stuff, but I say pay for the gear and issue it. If you don't need it every day, then you probably don't need the access. Likely, too many configuration to cover and too many trouble calls to be billed against the personal device mobile device account(s). in my opinion, wait until the next work day or have someone call you if it's an emergent problem.

In AF land we can use webmail and web based Teams and O365 web apps on a personal computer with simply a CAC reader. No longer are DOD Root Certs required. It's a huge convenience and productivity boost.

At least in AF land, "consumerization" is a thing as more apps and platforms are pushed off the service maintained network. Any browser with CAC will gain you access to things like base productivity and "daily use" apps like training/learning, logging pilot /crew continuity training, etc up to and including CUI.
