FINDOCS and the PRT

So the flashchat kids know about this, but hoping to get a recruiter to chime in and maybe make this current gouge..

I have failed my PRT 3x times after my PRO-REC. I am the skinniest fat-kid I know. I do fine on SU and RUN, and is always problematic with PU. My last PRT was with a USNA grad and after 25 sit-ups had me restart. Now, I have been able to do the 47 PU required, but after restarting, I fell a few short.

I am not disappointed or angered at the USNA grad by any means, but actually thankful because I never knew that you couldn't put your knee down while doing PU and my recruiter said nothing of the two prior times. I would have gone to OCS not in shape. USNA grad actually gave me tips for building the right core muscle instead of using pure arm strength.

Here is the actual question.

I received my PROREC around 2 JULY 07. I asked my recruiter about remaining time from PROREC and FINDOCS since we had gone over 30 days. He checked with the processor and he said CNRC will ask at 45 days and it will expire on 90 days.

All the instruction I have found contradicts this, and that it the request must be made in writing to extend the PROREC to 90 days. He is well convinced that everything is OK. I have 1 month left till 90 days to fix my PRT and submit FINDOCS according to him, should I stop worrying?

stop worrying just pass the PRT the right way and it will be no problem. If you train correctly you should be able to do it next two weeks or so with no problem. FYI you can drag it out for 6 months or so if need be.

Whats with the guy being a USNA grad? What does that have to do with anything? Do you think they are more strict?

I just mention it to solidify that he might have more experience with the PRT than an LDO Recruiter might.

you had to throw LDO in there didn't you. BUT your probably correct when it comes to form and such. The USNA guy will know the form needed to pass at OCS unless your LDO recruiter has been trained properly and is a but head like me when it comes to PRT standards. if you feel your recruiter is not doing it correctly pass the PRT under the guidance of the USNA guy it will make your transition in OCS much easier. Most people fail the in PFA at OCS due to incorrect form while doing pushups and situps.

/signed.

Is it really that difficult to do 60 situps, 60 pushups, and run 1.5 mi in under 12:30?

It is if your a skinny fat guy, maybe i'm the only other skinny fat guy around but i have the same problem I can do su and run but stink at pu (no pun intended). I can only do about 35, is that death for me as far as my app?

Question - I'm in the process of applying and am finishing up getting all my recommendations in. At what point do you do the PRT?

The PRT is pass/fail. I don't know the exact number, but the cutoff for a 20-24 yr old male for pushups is somewhere in the 50's range. Just do pushups every other day for 2 weeks then every day for another two weeks and you'll be fine. This is also one area where lifting weights actually helps, too, but do a routine that's geared towards building endurance/tone rather than pure mass (ie more reps rather than more weight). Personally, I've been in martial arts for a long while so pushups/situps are rather easy -- it's running that's a chore. But again, it's nothing that a month of consistent work won't fix.

That's an excellent program to work on. If week 1 is too difficult, scale it back to a "week 0" -- run 1 mi 3x week, scale back the reps of pushups/situps (but not the amount of sets) 3x/week accordingly. However, don' get lazy -- if that last set isn't giving you some trouble, you're not doing enough. The only way to raise up your physical performance is to "train to fail" - in other words, do the exercise until you can't physically do it anymore. From fishing around on these forums, it seems like the most you'll ever run at OCS is 3 miles at a time, so anything after week 4 is gravy.

Oh, and as goob said, form is extremely important. If you want to check your progress, do a simulated PRT once every two weeks, AFTER a rest day.

Call your recruiter and ask him when the PRT is. I'm going nuke so my timeline is probably different than yours.

For a 20-24 year old male, it's 47 for a good low. At least, that's what my recruiter tells me. I'm another skinny fat kid. :D
