Favorite CAG/CVW Makeup

In the vein of the Ship of the Day thread, I’ve always been intrigued by the evolution of the Carrier Air Wing over the years- both the airframes that make them up and the changing roles and missions. I’ve always had a soft place in my heart for the airframes from the tail end of the Cold War era, and came across RANGER and her all-Grumman CVW.

Very fair point! Still, five out of six fixed wing types ain’t bad... and there aren’t quite as many Grumman aircraft types in the inventory anymore...

Reminds me of Haiti and Operation Unified Response. I'll see if I can find a picture of all of the helos on the Vinson. In the middle of it all there was one lonely E-2.

Mildly tangential to the topic, but I was aboard the Bonnie Dick for this, so sharing:

Harrier Carrier, circa 2003. 24 AV-8Bs and the SAR det, that's it.

I just went through my pictures and realized I never got a picture of all the helos. The photos I have during the day are all of an empty deck with maybe one or two helos coming or going.
