FALANT/Color Vision

Hey all, hoping someone can help me out with this one.

I am looking to apply for SNA/SNFO and my distant vision is fine. Where I have problems is with Color Vision. I only get about 3/4 of those color plate tests correct, so I have definently have an issue. In reading this forum and browsing the web I know the Navy will issue a FALANT test which is easier to pass for mild color-vision deficient people like myself.

I would like to take a FALANT test before I start my application to know if it is worth putting SNFO/SNA on my application when I send it in. I have asked my recruiter about taking a FALANT test and he doesnt seem to know the answer.

Does anyone know where a civilian or possibly military FALANT test can be taken before actually going to MEPS when someone is pro-rec'd? I don't want to waste my or the Navy's time with applying for positions I know I cannot accept.

Thanks!

Color vision isn't just for SNA/SNFO, but rather all unrestricted lines. Just sayin'.

Sorry...other designators I planned to apply for Supply, Intel, Crypto are in the RL so I didnt metion the fact that all URL designators need color vision in the thread. Apologize for that one.

No worries, just didn't want anyone to think they could go SWO/Sub if they couldn't pass the color vision.

Suggestion: find out from an FBO, the local FAA ACDO or GADO office, or maybe just call some doctors or check in the yellow pages and find some local, civilian doctors who do FAA pilot medicals. They should be able to provide access to a FALANT and you will get your answer. At least you can compare your results with what the Navy requires ... :)

It may have changed now --- and others can give mo' bettah current advice --- but the Navy has always offered the FALANT instead of/in addition to the "bubble book", i.e., the "color plates". I couldn't pass them either --- until the past 3-4 years --- go figure --- as a result, I always took the FALANT in the Navy and Civie Street. Like I said ... until now.
