Do you select to fly the D model out of advanced or is it designated for you out of the FRS? Or do pilots swap between single seat and two seat squadrons? Also do they send crews from the VMFA(AW) squadrons to Top Gun, or are those slots saved for VMFA squadrons?

The last guy I knew that selected hornets knew what squadron he was going to (after FRS) before reporting to the FRS. . so that would dictate whether you got A+, C, or D. Not sure if it's like that always, but I think it's a safe assumption.

I stand corrected. I must have confused him knowing his destination MCAS not necessarily which squadron/aircraft . . .
