Yes I did. Actually I was out sailing and the jets flew over. All of a sudden there was a loud POP. My sailing partner and I looked up and saw two shoots open up. The other guy continued to circle around. It crashed no less than a mile from where we were sailing. The plane actually crashed in a marshy area, but it was pretty close to residential areas. At least the pilots made it out OK. They were pretty dazed, but in good shape. More news came out in the paper today that said the pilot lost his main power supply and switched to a back-up but that failed also.

I remember the F-16 that crashed in Pensacola after running out of fuel. Drove by the house that the jet crashed into. Not as much damage as I thought there would be.

attributed to.... good construction, good flying, or both?

I would say not good flying, being that the pilot ran out of gas and then punched out. I believe the mishap was total pilot error on this one. As I recall there was a broken tree, a v shapped wedge in the road where the wingtip dug in and then of course a burnt house. Thing is, the damage was contained only to the house. The house was on a corner and there was no major damage to the home next to it or behind it.

Let me get in here and derail this real quick, what sort of things can happen to a pilot after something like this?

Bunk was that the crash where the pilot was trying to get the plane out to open water but couldn't make it and punched, but his jet sheered some big trees and killed a little kid? I remember a crash that was a few blocks from where my grandparents lived and I remember an explosion while swimming, wasn't it like 96 or 98?

I remember a mother and her child being badly injured. Maybe her child did pass from the injuries. It was in 96.
