...But usually if it is your community that had the mishap, general knowledge about why it happened usually abounds. Unless it is a really odd mishap like when CDR Kleefish had a CFIT with RADM Prout in his back seat in an F/A-18C. Do a google on those names, you'll see what I mean.
Or not. Just guessing. But I'm pretty curious, too. Does this mean that since I'm not officially an Aviator yet that I don't get to read the "real" gouge?
 Bummer.

CFIT...controlled flight into terrain...sadly, those two did not make it.

really odd mishap
I looked on the navy's website for the official word and nothing seemed odd, aside from the whole CFIT part. I guess the odd part must be in the MIR.

Didn't he have Fridge in his back seat? I remember he goit burned a bit too, but may be an earlier mishap as the memories muddel about...what did you d on the Stennis...VAQ? I was Air Ops.

I didn't make the Stennis cruise. I got to do the 8 month Westpac float-ex while everyone else went to war. Oh well.

By odd, I mean the priveleged stuff sometimes, it it has do with personalities and such. The stuff that won't make the JAG as it is not priveleged. 'Nuff said.
For example, you can tell a JAG only what you want to, but only fact. In the MIR safety investigation you can say you thought the pilot who just augered in doing a break turn was an arrogant pilot who took risks and you knew that. JAG investigations only want fact, not opinion. They derive their opinions from findings of fact. MIRs take all sources including opinion, heresay, etc. The safety MIRs whole job is to find what caused the mishap and try to prevent it from happening again...be it pilot error or aircraft related.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
G

Fallon

I was in Fallon when CDR Kleefish and RADM Prout had their mishap. Pretty sad. Bad day for the whole Airwing.
