Raptor,

I just took the Pre-Commissioning physical which is different than the "Flight" physical one takes at OCS, the eye portion consisted of four tests:

Visual Acuity -- Eye Chart - which judges whether you have 20/20, 20/40 etc.

Ocular Pressure -- You get a puff of air in the eye -- testing for glaucoma.

Depth Perception -- Put on glasses and pick out the holograms.

Color Blindness -- You look at some lights and some color (Ishitara) plates -- this one was very difficult for me. I highly recommend taking some online color blindness tests as it's very common in males (1 in 20 have some degree).

yea, I have been through that already but I hear they do more tests later on for pilot. I am just wondering if someone knows what the names of the tests are so that I can have a private optomitrist check my eyes. If someone can help me that please do so. Thanks.

I don't know every detail but i know they dialate your pupils and do a cornea map in order to project how long your vision will stay good.

I took the flight physical at NAS Jax and it pretty much consisted of the same as the previously mentioned commissioning physical only for the depth perception they make you look at a bunch of tiny circles and you have to pick out the one that is closer or farther than the rest (It may not sound that hard but it is a major pain in the rear), and for color blindness they have a book that you look through and tell them what number is on each page (This one is not all together that hard, but has its moments) and finally you have to go to the optometrist for him to double check your eyes. I dont know if thats how it is in PCola but that is at least what I had in Jacksonville.

Well, I failed the depth perception at MEPS, but then I went to an optometrist and passed the depth perception test there, and so I was cleared. The one with the circles is just not right, I couldn't tell which circle was raised and which was not. Also had the eye doc do another test called "cyclopegic test". I don't know how to spell that but I passed that one as well. I just hope that my eyes hold up for the aviation physical since that is one which really matters.

Can someone please tell me what I can expect to happen if I should get the NAMI Whammie for vision while at OCS as a SNA? I did not indicate a second preference on my application. Will I be able to go directly to SNFO if I choose, or do I have to reapply? I would like to know what can happen so that I can be prepared just in case.
