Europe under extreme duress

While doing some research for an article I’m writing I stumbled across this 1981 political cartoon. It is telling how little things have changed in 45 years! Just change the old Soviet imagery for a Russian eagle and this is about 2026.

Except that all the objects would be strewn on the floor and the subject of the cartoon would be on his ass.

Major Major anyone?

I was thinking Catch 22 as well, but I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that The Dictator may actually be a better told story.

I went out of my way to try and be a better read person after I graduated college and read Catch 22. I was expecting a WWII version of MASH (the movie, not the show), but I found it to be more rambling than anything else.

Have you seen the adaptation of Catch-22 on Hulu? It is outstanding.

I've heard others say it was good (it may have been here), but I think I had emotional scars left by trying to finish the book. Like battered-wife syndrome.

"I have to finish the book. It's world-renowned. It has to be me, not the book..."

I'll add it to the mental list, but others are ahead of it in the cue.

Some books are like that. I HAD to read Moby Dick and Last of the Mohicans and it seemed like a death march but years later I still enjoy tossing out the occasional Ahab or Bumppo quote. There is nothing wrong with DORing on a book you’re not enjoying.
