Europe under extreme duress

It turns out that xenophobia, corruption and allying yourself with an existential threat to Europe can only take your government so far with Hungary's Victor Orban losing in a landslide defeat yesterday. The opposition party won 138 seats to Orban's Fidesz getting only 55 seats in Hungary's Sunday election. It'll be interesting to see what extent the new government goes in investigating and unwinding the corruption and graft that occurred during Orban's rule.
Change around a few words, retain sentiment, and you may be able to recycle this post after our mid term elections.

A more comprehensive take on the election in Hungary. Magyar was a member of Fidesz until 2024, and his party Tisza was more restrictive on immigration. From the left wing The Atlantic:

Maygar certainly won because many folks from across the political spectrum, from the left to the right, were sick of the corruption and autocracy of Orban's regime voting for 'not Orban'.

To minimize just how drastic the change will likely be to Hungarian politics undersells how many of the previous government's policies will almost certainly be overturned, changed or altered to include their foreign policy which has been Putin-friendly.
