I don't see why not. There was an army guy that was in my BOLTC class, he went to OCS.

I would think you'd have to be discharged from the Air Force, then apply like a civilian. Other than that, it really isn't that uncommon. We had an air force guy, a Marine, and a blackhawk crew chief in our class.

Sorry it took me a few days to reply to this, but yeah, I'm enlisted AF going to Navy OCS next month. Got questions?

Thanks for your reply.

Did you apply to AF OTS at all? Was it difficult to get out of your AF committement to go to the Navy? Or is your enlistment coming to an end?

primary...i hate FORMs
I went from marine corps to navy OCS. It is actually pretty simple. All you have to do is get a conditional release signed by your CO stating they will release you from your unit should you be accepted. Also, he must write you a letter of recommendation "enthusiastically recommending" you go to OCS.

Im my case i had enough of the USMC bull$hit so i went Navy. PM me for specific questions if any

I am thinking about applying to the Navy OCS from the Army. I understand that I need to obtain a "conditional release," in order for me to attend OCS, should I get accepted. My question is this, is a conditional release hard to obtain? Is there any reason a CO would not want to give you one? The only reason I ask is b/c our CO is a new to the unit and I don't know him very well, so I was wondering if these are hard to obtain.

Thanks in advance

I did the same thing, I was AF now Navy. What everyone is telling you is pretty much how it is. The release form is easy to get if your CO doesn't hate you. You will have to submit the release form with your OCS package.. if you are accepted you will then have to submit another form to AF AFPC HQ asking to be released if you still have a comitment left. I did not have any troubles. Talk to a Navy recruiter for more info or PM me.

DD Form 368, Request for Conditional Release. Have it filled out process it through your chain of command for the appropriate signatures then include it in your application package.

I am doing the same thing, enlisted AF to USMC OCS. Very possible.

The only reason I can think of (and it's obvious) is if you're a dirtbag. But if your NCOIC and OIC think highly of you, then I think they can go to the (new) CO and vouch for you.

Another possible reason (for rejection) MIGHT be if you have a critical MOS (meaning really important and they're short handed in your MOS) and they positively, definitely can't afford to lose you for now.

but otherwise, if you're a squared away soldier and you have the qualifications for OCS I don't see anyother reason why your CO would not endorse your app.

Good luck!

since there are posters from other services in this thread, i have another question, although not really related to the subject. what happens to the medals that you won in your prior branch of service, once you switch services?

sammyswife,

PS can wear medals/ribbons for which the Navy has an equivalent - Army/AF Achievement, National Defense, etc. I work with an Army Specialist who was just picked up as a Direct Commission Officer in the Naval Reserve and that's what our research indicated.

WFU2USN,

Thanks for your reply. Do you know, does that also include, the overseas medal, GWOT, Southwest Asia, GWOT expeditionary medal, etc?
