Eligibility Requirements for Becoming a Naval Officer

Program Authorizations

Eligibility for specific designators, such as Surface Warfare Officer (SWO), Information Professional (IP), and Medical, is often questioned. The Program Authorizations page on My Navy HR is an excellent resource for determining whether you meet the necessary qualifications, including your degree, GPA, Officer Aptitude Rating (OAR), and other program requirements.

*Keep in mind that exceptions and waivers may be available. For guidance, it’s best to consult an officer recruiter.

What waivers are approved for SWO and IP ?

I got a 35 on my OAR second try. Prior service Marine. I feel lost. All I really want is to go back in , Officer route would be great. Marines or Navy. Don't care I just want to be able to provide for my family. I know about the Kyle guide I just DL. I am 39 years with a 2.5 GPA. Any help would be appreciated. Also Infantry in the Marines would be great. Thanks.

If you are able to get your OAR up to an acceptable score your GPA is going to be a huge hindrance, along with your age is outside the range for many programs.

My best advice, study your ass off for a better OAR score, plenty of study material on here and online. Additionally, not sure if that’s your undergrad or grad degree, but you could try to get a better GPA/OAR with a grad degree if you haven’t already gotten one and get into a program like supply that gives waivers up to age 42 with prior service (you would fit that bill), that’s 42 at the time of commissioning.

You're not going to make it with a 35. Study hard, check out the guide and just grind. Take the time necessary to score higher. You already know what's going to be on the OAR. Study what you know you suck at and you'll get past 40.

I agree. Just worried ... I won't score what I need to score. Studying with the OAR app and I'll check out Kyle's guide.
Again, at this point I don't think your OAR qualifies you for anything at this point so nothing to lose.

You should look at what designators you can apply to with you age, and GPA, while IWC has a higher age your GPA will be a no go.
