Driving from Florida to Texas??

Random question:

Is anyone driving from Florida to Texas (anywhere) in the near future? Specifically, I'm deploying and trying to get my dog from Jacksonville to Corpus Christi. Its super expensive to have him fly without me on the flight. I was thinking if someone is going that way anyway, perhaps he could get a ride, and I would compensate you for gas/time.

He needs to be driven to Texas between Oct 10 and Oct 16. He's a 2 year old male golden retriever and he's really nice. He's well behaved in the car (just sleeps) and he's also pretty cute.

Please let me know if you are able to do this. Your assistance would be appreciated.

PM me or email: allyson.scholl@navy.mil

Thanks.

Can't help ya but I am curious to how much it does cost to ship your dog?

(I guess dogs can't go Space A...)

I checked for a boxer from BWI to San Antonio. Continental is the only airline I trust to do it, they have pressurized/temp controlled cargo spaces, and it was on the order of 415 bones.

They also won't do it with brachycephalic (smushed nosed) dogs if the OAT is going to be more than 75 degrees on the ground at any of the stops on the trip. That kind of ruled out San Antonio until around November or December, so I ended up driving halfway and meeting my old man to get my doggie.

I've got a roommate moving from Pensacola to Corpus for primary around the 11th. I'll pass the word to him.

Update: I ran it by him and he says there won't be any room in his car (he drives a GTI that'll be packed pretty full). Sorry and good luck.

Thanks everyone. Maybe I'll meet my brother halfway (New Orleans??) in order to make this works. I've called about 4 airlines and each one is about $300-400 each way to ship the dog if I'm not flying too (If I am, its $100 each way in addition to my ticket).

Right now, with the price of gas, that may be cheaper than driving.

Unless your cars both get better than 21mpg, it's cheaper to ship.

$400/3.70 =~108 gallons
2300miles to JAX Beach from the Corpus Condo and back (even if you split, that's the total mileage)
2300/108 gallons = 21.3mpg

Plus the whole time/hotel BOQ thing.
