Sorry for being a post whore, and most of these aren't USN warbirds, but I took these pics at Wright-Patt AFB last summer. Amazing, Amazing museum.

Don't be sorry, these are great pictures of some really great planes

Steve

here are a few naval aircraft from yesteryear at the Dulles Smithsonian.

Am I the only one who thinks that there is something wrong when a Tomcat and an Intruder are referred to as naval aircraft from yesteryear along with a Corsair and a Hellcat? Like they were all used so long ago that they are lumped together....

Yes. :D

didn't mean to download them that way....but they are all in museums or sitting gate guard duty. I just figured I'd include the gratuitous Intruder shot to keep A4s happy.... and I happen to like the look of a pair of F-110s from behind.

Douglas SDB is tops for me! Bet that was some great flying.

My Grand-dad was a tailgunner/radioman in the Dauntless....SBD-3 I think. He got shot down over Rabaul harbor during 1943 flying off a jeep carrier and spent some time in the drink before he got picked up by a Catalina. From what I understand, when the SBD pilots started transitioning to the Helldiver.....they wanted to go back to SBDs.

Our "dreamsheets of yesteryear" series is so popular. Anyone going to gin up a "best of the 1950s" poll?

That one might take awhile. They had so many T/M/S's in such a relatively short period of time, it will take a little thought to get a decent list that doesn't have 30 options. I know I made 2 mistakes on the original WWII poll, which was an easier one. I'll do it though, maybe next weekend, unless a SME beats me to it, which I welcome.

Saw this ad. Not one of the WWII airstars, but how cool would it be to roll to the FBO in one of these.
