I joined for the express purpose of being able to access the shock & awe section. I hear they have message boards too, but I ain't goin' near 'em.

In CAP I make a habit of telling new cadets not to lock their knees at Attention to prevent just that from happening. I've heard abotu it happening to cadets and I've seen the after effects. Makes for good stories.

Stay safe.

How long of a time would you have to have your knees locked for that to happen? Or does it just depend? I have never seen anything like that. Kinda felt bad for the dude. Had zero control over it.

We have quarters here in Bahrain once a month or so. Everyone stands at attention for about 20 minutes while certain awardees get recognized...in the heat.

Someone always does a faceplant. Several will start wobbling and get carried off by someone.

Try standing at attention in the sun for about 20 minutes...then lock your knees tightly and count backwards from 100...99...98...wham.

Yea, we had one guy face plant in front of the CO after standing at attention for 45 minutes (nrotc days). I had a hard time holding in the laugh. I lived with the guy. Needless to say, we made fun of him for it.

I had a plebe (freshman) in my company at USNA who did the faceplant thing...Right onto her bayonet while in a parade formation. It went in one part of her cheek, slid under the skin, and the point came out again. We removed the rifle the bayonet was attached to, ace bandaged the whole thing, and carted her off to a waiting ambulance. All without getting a drop of blood on my whites, mind you.

You can generally tell who actually falls out and who's just a candyass, because the ones who aren't faking just fall forward, without going to their knees first. Unless, of course, they hit their bayonet first.

We always have some clown pass out during spring change-of-command. Its slated for tomorrow afternoon, we're wearing SDBs.

Its not ungodly hot (70ish) but I just know there will be a few who can't cut it. I think we're going to have a pool on how many 4/C eat it during the inevitable long-winded speeches.

We had one guy pass out two years ago, just fell like a board. I was standing about 30 feet away, I heard the sword clang on the ground followed by a nice big *THUD*. At least he landed on astroturf.

(I know... nice sea story middie... i'll kick my own ass for it later.:))

I fell asleep in formation during one of the marathon 5 hour OCS graduation practices. My weapon hit the candidate next to me and hung on his trousers by the front sight post. Thank God we were at close interval and that weapon never made it clattering all the way to the deck!

The scarier part is being a JG and remembering that exact occurrence . . . :icon_tong He was right behind me so I ended up standing there going WTF was that? Your staff are a bunch of sadists. You should be wearing whites. Save the heatstroke for Meridian in June in flight gear . . . :yuck_125:

Change of command tomorrow but we're in whites thank god. Though I am the color guard oic so that means I get to spend the entire time shoulder to shoulder in 85 degree heat as opposed to just in ranks. Mmm other people's sweat...

I spent 4 yrs in the Army's Ceremonial unit "The Old Guard." I have seen more than a dozen fallouts. The best one was when a new private fell out. He fell forward with his bayonet slicing the uniform of the solider in front of him. The best part is when they just drag them out by either their arms or legs and stick'em w/ an IV. The Docs have No mercy. "One fallout shame on you...Two fall outs... Welcome to Korea" (or now with the war the next unit deploying to Iraq.) IA...you suck ...here’s your orders. They have no compassion for fallouts in that unit.
