I had a Rott that I absoloutely loved, but I gave him to a dear friend when I went to OCS. I don't think that it would be very fair to the dog to be owned by a single SNA because you will have days that push your crew day (12 hrs). If you have roommates or a wife/live-in GF it could work, but I guarentee that you will have some long days. Not too many, but avg. 1 a week. I love dogs, and I think that it could work, but it is probably better that you wait. If you do get a puppy, understand that you WILL deploy in the next 4-5 years and will need someone to take care of it for at least 6 months, so if you don't have a wife or family that dosn't mind looking after the little guy for at least that long, I wouldn't do it.
