I've got an Ibanez cherry-red 4 string bass that I play around on from time to time. All of you guys who have been on cruise, does anyone ever bring their guitar on the cruise?

An old enlisted Navy friend of mine told me that he always took his guitar with him on deployment and he doesn't know how he would have passed the time otherwise.

Our XO brought his on a 3-week det. I'd say bring it if you want, but keep in mind, the more you onload, the more you offload (especially on cruise, because you'll have bought a lot of stuff in ports).

My friend told me that he took his guitar with him, but I wasn't sure if this was a normal type of thing or what. I would love to be able to take mine with me, I am sure that it would help to pass the time.

I took a guitar on both of my floats. The ship had a band, and the Navy guys let our Marine band play on there stuff. We played for the crew many times and had a ball (at ports and steel beach parties).

I've been playing for 13+ years and currently have a US made Strat and Fender acoustic electric. Worst mistake I ever made was sell my Les Paul! When I was in college I was in a band and we played at a local pub, classic rock, hard rock, some 80's and some country. My strat hasn't been out of it's case in a while. I've been playing Mexican-style fingerpicking pieces on my acoustic.

I like to play pretty much everything. I have been getting into the slap-style of playing here lately. I am in Nashville so I am forced to play some country but, like I said, I will play pretty much anything.

Back when my husband was a bubblehead, there was another nuke who brought his banjo on every cruise. Apparently there is nothing like playing a little banjo after a long day of boiling water.
