DoD hiring freeze

We are still in a hiring freeze per AFPC. Also no step increases or bonuses. We've lost folks to the voluntary separation and had a few folks go back to airlines/135 simply because of the DOGE drama. These guys were already retired O-5s.

But I was awarded a meritorious step increase that has been delayed indefinitely by OPM.

The Department of Veterans Affairs said Monday that it will no longer be forced to conduct a large reduction in workforce, unlike several other federal agencies that were forced to make mass layoffs because of the Trump administration’s U.S. DOGE Service.

They're still on track to reduce by 30,000 folks though through retirements, attrition and slower/frozen hiring. Whether or not they should have reduced that much is certainly debatable but the way they went about it, so fast and haphazardly, I don't think was the right way to do it.

Boeing "cut" 10% of the workforce last year. What it actually amounted to was a lot of early retirements, and a few token folks who were probably already going to be fired, being terminated. Anything to give the "investors" and the BOD a chubbbbbb
