While at OCS, do you train or play wargames on mockup ships? How much fire training do you receive? What kind (if any) of on ship training do you get?
Do you learn about the different areas of a ship and the different communities and what they do while on ship?
you'll go on a Yard Patrol boat and learn basic navigation and seamanship. no wargames... no firefighting... but you may go to the range and shoot 9mm..
If you're lucky enough, you just might be able to tour an old destroyer or other that pulls into port....it works out that this mandatory "tour" will most likely cut into your liberty time.
everybody does the wet trainer as a part of Damage control. The only thing pilots/NFOs do that others don't is extra swim survival. Oh yeah, try not to get sea sick on the YP...those little ships get tossed around like a motherf***er
It is a big metal box. The insides are made to look like a space on a ship. There are several holes in it that they pump water into. The team inside is supposed to plug the leaks with shoring equipment. The box fills up with water pretty fast so it makes it difficult to do it. A lot of fun. You get really wet and you get to eat a "midrat". In OCS there are not many better days. Well the 9mm range was quite fun as well.
