Like I said, on the B side, pilots have a basic knowledge about what's going on in the backseat. Some choose to get into the geeky details, others don't. On one hand, you could have an O5 stick who was a RAG instructor, PTI/level IV type who's just as smart about the EA as your average ECMO. The other side of the spectrum is a stick that only had two other flying tours and never really learned the backseat stuff. I've seen a wide range. As for the button pushing stuff, very few pilots would be able to sit in the backseat and be able to get anything accomplished, just as most ECMOs wouldn't be able to land on the boat if they were in the pilot seat. It's not a matter of any kind if enforced separation, you just don't have physical access to the systems that aren't at your seat.
