Guess she don't like the Cornbread either...
I am not quite sure who your trying to insult, but I think ol' P_Ubhi18 is down at that master jet base in Mississippi training to be, you know, one of those 'Naval Aviator' folks you keep hearing about on the radio...

Change I can belive in
Im not a squid so I can't be too sure, but i think the Navy still uses pea coats as a uniform item. I have kind of wondered in an off hand way if they are allowed to wear them in civvies.

I used to have one, i still like the way they look, but i just dont need a winter coat any more unfortunately.....

Officers remove the blue plastic anchor buttons and replace with 42-line (I think) gold uniform buttons. Add loops for your shoulder boards and voila!...you have a "Reefer Coat". I've worn them in very cold climates and they're very comfortable.

Isn't the reefer/bridge coat longer?

The Pea Coat is for enlisted personnel. The officer equivalent is the Reefer. Note the difference in buttons (also is worn with shoulder boards).

Used to be only Naval Academy Grads had either the Reefer or the longer coat. If you're going into aviation, likely they'll stay in closest unless you're stationed somewhere VERY cold (Naval War College in winter certainly qualifies) or deploy somewhere cold and want it for Boat O duty.

Could still be useful in some climes. I think the All-WX coat looks sloppy and crappy, but you need something to keep you warm for a winter Change of Command in SDBs. Don't own a reefer or a bridge coat though.

Oh, and a grammar nazi note . . . there are no words in the English language (outside of very bad science fiction or fantasy) which capitalize two letters in one word. Unless your name is MacDonald, McCampbell, or O'Leary, two capital letters == two words.

Coming from USNA, you'd thnk everyone wears those all the time in the fleet. Year and a half out, I've got my Reefer and O Coats in the back of my closet, still inside the USNA dry cleaning bags and I shitcanned my Ike jacket (it was covered in ghey patches). The reefer is definitely the one to have : wayyyy more comfortable. And you don't have to wear it with that useless silk scarf.

I've been toying with the idea of going the other way: snipping off the shoulder loops and swapping the buttons to black ones so I can wear it as a civvie P-coat. Then I realized I'm in S. Texas bound for Jax and will have no need of a wool coat in the near future.

Depends on what you use for your Nazi doctrine. This is what I went by:

Restrain your use of ALL CAPS to solitary words that need further emphasis.

And that's exactly what I intended by using that option. This is the InterNet, not your college English Class.
