I am not trying to give off the wrong impression. However, I am trying to transfer into another branch. What kind of awards can a navy JO get over there?

Heck, I guess like any deployment the range runs the gamut from dismissal to the MOH.

Here's my guess. If you meet the minimum requirements of your billet, you'll get a NAM. All services will enter into a bidding war over your services.

There are a few OSO's who mentioned that if I get a commendation medal, it would help my package. That is why I asked.

Here's a tip. We made a port visit to Djibouti in 1986ish if memory serves. The embassy/security staff came onboard as soon as the brow went over. During the ship briefing they specially said to not patronize the local hookers, no matter what. Some 6 or 9 months later one of the members of Deck Division came up positive during a piss test. About a month later two later, some dudes in business suits came aboard around midnight and escorted him that young man off of the ship. C.O. instructed the InPort OOD to just them go. Later, we found out that said E-3 admitted to partaking in hookers back in Djibouti. So immediately he was off to Norfolk and booted out of the Navy. Back then if you acquired AIDS, you were kicked out of the Navy butt quick. So don't touch the locals! Maybe they give NAM's for that now a days.

Step 1. Become a wardroom member there.
Step 2. Profit.

Avoid the midnight Djiboutian breeze (aka trash pit fog), and go to Monday night mid rats, it's the best meal you'll have there.

I was there in 2010 so my experiences are definitely dated, but it wasn't bad living. Not great, but not bad. You'll get into a sleep-work-eat-workout rhythm of some flavor and it will be good. If the ice cream bar is still there in its glorious form, enjoy in moderation.
