Dislocated Shoulder

Hey guys and gals I am back a few weeks early, I freakin dislocated shoulder and got sent home. Tjis sucks, any way I was profersional recomended to come back and the Officers told me that In was a good candidate and that I better come back.
My question to those in the know, I know that I am almost guaranteed a spot back, but will surgery on my arm (which I was ordered to get) keep from getting back in with my air contract? And will my age be an problem no. I am Currently 27 and 7 months old.
I pray to God you guys give me the answer I am looking for.

I'm sorry to hear that, man. While I can't speak with certainty on your questions, I know people that got air contracts with worse injuries than yours. Assuming surgery is successful and you heal properly, it shouldn't be a problem. Look at it this way, the Officers you spoke with expected you to return, so apparently those in the know didn't see it as an issue. As for the age thing, I don't know.

It happened on the log run!! I tell you what OCS rocks it only sucks for the first 3 weeks, once you get your liberty every sat it is better because you get a chance to breathe, definatly worth it.
All I know is that the officers rock, my PLatoon CO and another Platoon CO came to me and shook my hand and said and I quote "You better come back or I will be pissed". That was highly motivating. I am honored to be trained by men of such character.

Still waiting to hear about OCC 185 - but from talking to three different flight doctors - their main concern is that you have full mobility and use of your body. I had broken my collarbone (broke right in two) and was really concerned about it. They told me not to worry because I had demonstrated full use and mobility of my shoulder and arm.

Just keep all of your documentation from the surgery, contact info of hospital and doctors, etc - that will help for your next flight physical when you are interviewed by the flight doc.

About the age - the last I heard you had to be under the age of 30 (or 30 at the oldest - can't remember) when you START flight training. So, if you get back in within the next year and a half, even with TBS, you should be good to go.

I've learned there are exceptions to everything - so I'm sure there are people who started flight training after 30.

But what are you right now? I know you get E-5 pay while there....are you a Marine right now or not?

How does that work?

I've heard from several other candidates (and, if memory serves correctly, a TBS graduate waiting to go to artillery school - at least I thought I had this discussion with him) that you don't have benefits (insurance) while in OCS. However, if an injury occurs during OCS, then the Corps should pay for it. Just what I heard from people not there (and my memory is too foggy to recall if one that has been there actually told me this).

I do not know what I am I will find out tomorrow. I pray my OSO says that they will foot the bill and that I will be back in the hunt soon. It was definatly a good time.

I was third on the list for alternates on the east coast, I was informed by my OSO about a month b4 that I would be going, when you are an alternate you are good to go. If you do not get the current class, you will get the class afterward.

riley - from what i've been told you are covered by insurance while you're under the watch of the Marine Corps. i know my current insurance coverage stops the day i get to OCS because i was told we have coverage there.

GTodd - sorry to hear about your misfortune. glad you seem to be keeping a positive attitude. keep us updated on the insurance situation, cause now it seems some of us (or at least myself) are curious. thanks, and good luck.
