DCO HR

I am interested to see who starts to get commission docs first, my board met in July I know some DCO selects for FY 10 from FEB, everyone seems to be waiting on that magic date of 10-01 seems like after that date things really start moving... I finished my medical and my clearance is done, I am wondering who gets it first! I was a supply select from end of July, found out like first week of August,

Hi all. I'm new to this forum so please forgive me. I'm considering the Navy Reserve myself. I was particularly interested in the HR DCO program but I haven't heard much information about it lately. Anyone have any experience they wish to share?

Hello all, I guess proper introductions are in order. I'm heavily considering the Reserve HR Direct Commission Program and I wanted to know if anyone has any experience in this area. I have a M.S in Management, BA in Public Administration, 8 years in the USCGR and I work for the U.S. Dept of Labor as a Compliance Specialist. I don't know much about the program and I've found only a little bit of information so far.

Hello everyone, I’m new to this board as of today and I would like to thank everybody for their very informative posts. I too am interested in a DCO and I’m interested in HR and Supply. I do have a few questions that this board may be able to help with. First, does anybody know anything about the January Supply Board such as when, how many people are applying, and how may positions there are, etc? Two, I’ve been a civilian since 1991 (Gulf Storm and War Vet.), and I just wanted to know how other civilians got their Navy Interview papers done? My recruiter is looking into this for me because I do not know any military people, let alone any O-4s or above, and I just wanted to know how civilians are getting these? BTW, I checked and the only Navy Officer around here is my recruiter. Third, can I get a few people to post about the Selection Board, such as questions asked, number of Board members, time it took, etc? Fourth, can people please post the process and time frame of what happens after you’re accepted by the Board? I’m prior service, enlisted Air Force, and I’m really interested in a DCO so your help is very much appreciated. I was up for the October HR positions, but they were cancelled. However, I’m still up for the January, 2010, Supply Board. Thanks.....

Welcome to the board. RM3(SW) might be able to help you with the specifics on some info on HR and Supply. I am Intel but I am civilian too but with no prior service. The interviews were easy to come by but I've heard instances where several people have flown or driven someplace to get the interviews taken care of. So don't rule that out as a possibility and look outside the box. The Selection Board doesn't ask you any questions - you never meet with them and the specifics of those boards are usually pretty hush/hush. After your interviews and your packet is complete, your packet is reviewed by a detailer to make sure everything is there (and I think a score is given to you based on your packet) and then it proceeds to the Selection Board. Then they meet and in one day - finish the selection process.

There's a great thread a few pages back on the breakdown about how the board process works - it is a great read so I think that will help enlighten you on how the board works.

Not much time has passed but here's my timeline so far...

August 14, 2009 - packet submited for INTEL board
September 14, 2009 - INTEL Board meets
September 20, 2009 - Recruiter called, I was Professionally Recommended
October, 14, 2009 - Medical Packet sent up for review

I would imagine if I don't hit any snags, the scroll should be completed and I should be commissioned sometime near December or the first of the year. I will update you on any new timeline developments.

Good luck to you!

Charlie is right...I am also a civilian, and I'm one of those people flying around for interviews. Your recruiter should absolutely be able to help set up any interviews you need, and ordinarily they will be able to be somewhat close to your area. That said, I have been hunting down other interview opportunities on my own.

In fact, today I am in Laurel, MD, for an interview (just over an hour from now!), and next week I am flying to Denver for the same. I've found contacts through professional organizations and simply asking people out of the blue. Present yourself well, and most officers would be happy to do an interview for someone coming into the community!

Good luck.
