I have been keeping a blog and it is currently tracking my life at NSI. Hopefully those awaiting transfer here and future STA 21 applicants can use it to get an idea of life here. This is not to dissuade, only to prepare. Anyone who wants to be an officer ought to be ready to put up with some pain to get there.

Are you actually complaining about this place?!? This crap is easy. Hell of a lot easier than many places I can think of being in the Navy right now. And that comment of already having gone to boot camp? Give me a break. You went to boot camp then to nuke school and have no idea what the Navy is about yet. Dustydog said it well in another post "...Keep your eyes and ears open and your mouth shut and you might learn something."

EASY THERE BUDDY! I understand the animosity about not going to out to sea, but some of us in the nuke field have done more work than others (and a whole lot more of work and hours in than some people in other rates). He just said that it was a little pain, nothing to get carried away about.
And besides he is talking about NSI not BOOST where you currently are.

NSI/BOOST, my point is it doesn't matter. NONE of this stuff is hard. Annoying maybe, but definately NOT hard.

It's all about perspective. If you sit there and think man this is going to suck then guess what. That's probably how you'll go through it. But if you sit there and think hey, I've only got 2 (or 5) months of this and it's a joke then you'll be laughing all the way to college.

I don't recall saying this is the hardest thing I've ever done. I didn't even say it was hard. It is annoying, hence the nature of my Xanga posts.
I also may complain someday about going to the entire nuke pipeline over again as a nuke officer. Don't read too much into it.
If you have never complained about a job, then that's cool, you're unique. I don't have to love everything I do here. You're right, I don't expect this to be a huge deal. Part of me thinks BOOSTers have a harder transition. They had liberty in this area for three or six months and are about to lose it all. Going from full liberty to lockdown in a day is not exactly something I do all the time.

Of course I've complained about a job plenty of times. My point was that "I" didn't think that there was anything to complain about here. But, I do understand what you're saying. I guess I equate anything associated with "pain" to being difficult or "hard" hence my posting.

I am finishing 6 month BOOST now, starting NSI with you guys Thursday and I already see why you have the reputation you do. Before you guys (I use this term to cover all the Nukes that just arrived) got here, even the staff joked about what a group of whiners you always are (speaking of past classes). Posting something like your sniveling blog on a website like Airwarriors is childish and annoying. Posting tips for future participants is one thing, but you just sound discouraged and weak. Suck it up, you're supposedly one of the Navy's finest (you DID get picked up for this program) so act like you have some backbone and quit crying about NOTHING!

Upon further thought I would have to disagree with you. None of you have yet to do more work (unless you're one of those instructor types) than anyone who is currently out in their rate. Until you have left a training command you have not done anything to benefit the Navy. A SA who has been out in the fleet for 4 months has benefited the Navy more than any of you have yet. There is a reason that trainees in training commands don't get the GWOTSM. They HAVEN'T SERVED! You are still in a learning phase. That's just the fact.

I completely agree with you. . .concerning trainees. I wasn't trying to say that an E4 fresh out of nuke school has done any amount of hard work compared to someone actually doing a real job

Sorry there etnucsailor, you have a tough road ahead of you...it is true you have not truly served in the fleet until you are out of a training command and serve. Do a deployment, do a cruise, stand an actual watch, etc... Then you have some experience behind your belt and can legitimately comment on how hard or tough the navy is or can be. You haven’t even scratched the surface of "tough" or "inconvenient" or "a pain”; wait until you have to be away from your family and loved ones for months at a time, wait until you participate in events you cannot share with your family and friends. One thing you don't want to start now or get a reputation for is complaining and being a whiner, that will earn you little trust from your sailors and NO RESPECT from your fellow officers. That I can guarantee you.

I guess I should have put better clarification to the post that you probably saw first. The reply was to a comment made by my friend who was home in her apartment. She's USAFR.
Anyway, I went back over my blog to make sure I'm not wrong about this: NEVER did I say any of this was hard. A blog is a blog; I post what I think. While it may not be hard, try to tell me a PRT in goose crap is pleasant. I don't remember any sniveling. I also don't recall saying the NAVY is hard. You're right, I didn't get away from a training command, but I did get picked up. I spent 12 months in Charleston and 8 months in NY (2 of them as temporary staff while waiting to come here). I never compared this place to the "hardships" of the navy, only to boot camp.
I wasn't expecting to have to defend myself here, I'm not sure where the animosity is coming from.

Ok, the deal I have is you come on the forum and say that you have to go through some "pain" to become an officer. Like I said I basically equate pain to something difficult or "hard". You also say that it is not to dissuade anyone coming here. Well, why the hell would anything you say possibly dissuade anyone from applying if you weren't complaining? Putting those two statements together is whining in my book. Nothing here is painful. Nothing in ROTC is going to be painful. PTing in goose crap isn't painful. Any shellback has likely crawled in a lot worse. I'd much rather pt in some goose sh!t before crawling through 3 weeks of trash placed in a flexible ventilation duct any day.

You guys will never go through the level of pain that the first BOOST class in Newport went through. That class was hardcore. Computers in your rooms with internet? What is this crap?
