I am going to revive/jack my own thread.

As a college programmer, If I were to get a 3 yr scholarship, and then decide after a year that I did not want to do NROTC would i be obliged to repay the money. I am trying to draw a comparison to the 4yr guys where they can participate for a year and say naaa peace, leave NROTC and have no penalty.

Any thoughts? thanks.

It doesn't work that way. I came in with a 3-yr scholarship and had to sign away my life on the first day of classes. Saying "naaa peace" at that point means you will repay the Navy or take a trip to Great Lakes.

+1, 3-yr scholarship guys don't get the "free year" that 4-yr bubbas get. If you still walk away, you'll have to pay back whatever $$$ the Navy has spent on you.

Same, same for me. I got a retro active scholarship for the second semester of my second year. I had to sign on the line in the middle of the semester. The reason is because 4 year guys have to sign at the beginning of their second year.
