Contemplating a 1911 .22 conversion - any experience?

All,

Thinking about picking up a Kimber .22 conversion kit to go on my Series 80 Colt Combat Elite. I've read a bunch of reviews for it and the Marvel kit and both seem to like one brand of ammo and both need a break in to be reliable.

For the about $300 somalians seems like it might be a fun purchase if can be made reliable and I like the idea of using my 1911 which spent a little time being customized by Kesslering's over 20 years ago so I'm very comfortable with the trigger and such.

Thoughts?

I've had the Kimber stainless model conversion kit for my CDP Custom II for about two years now, and have had pretty good results. It does seem to have a preference for Winchester 40 gr. Power Points, as they function flawlessly and group even better than my Ruger Mk.1 bull barrel. (Perhaps the high-velocity helps the functioning). The adjustable sights are very good.

The only downsides I see to training with the kit are the greatly-reduced weight of the pistol versus your "combat carry" 1911, and the substantial sight picture difference versus the Meprolight night sights.

The obvious advantages are cost-effective training and identical ergonomics, trigger pull, etc. It worked wonders in curing my little brother's trigger flinch, also.

I have one of the Kimber gadgets. Wife's brother is production manager at Kimber and he gave me one as present.

Do not like it. Maybe not broken in. It resides in the bottom drawer collecting dust.

Will let you borrow it - try it if you like. Liike to get rid of it but a present so borrow is option.

I've got and use two COLT .22 Conversion Units ... one pre-War, one post-War ... no drips, runs, or errors w/ either ... dance w/ the one that 'brung ya ... :)
