Contact Lens Prescription @ Branch Med

Thanks CB. I appreciate it. Thought that was still the rule, which seem fair to me. Future questions will arise regarding this issue and those searching will find this and the correct answer, at least current rules. Good contribution. Rep points to you!

I just saw the eye doc this morning. He wrote me a prescription for both contacts and glasses. I even got to choose new frames for the free glasses they give us (i told the doc the ones they issued us after nami were pretty ugly...he agreed).

As far as contacts, all I just got was a waiver for in-flight contacts when I report to Primary. But the Navy will begin providing free contacts (and PRK if you want) AFTER you get winged. This is what the eye doc told me.

Hope this answers any questions. Cheers!
This may make me sound like an ass, but I'll readilly admit that i'm not an aviatior. I thought you couldn't fly if you didn't have 20/20? Via surgery or naturally. So, why would they be issueing you guys contacts if you're flying?

Bottom line: You don't need 20/20 to be a pilot, you can get PRK, lots of Pilots and NFOs wear contacts, Fezz is an NFO where the vision requirements are less restrictive than for Pilots.

So, what are the vision qualifications? Does it just have to be correctable to 20/20?

Basically, but it depends. Do a search - lots of that stuff has been covered already in great detail.
