Concussion CD?

I've got all my medical crap down in Key West being processed. Now there's a problem with a concussion I listed because there are no records for it. This happened about 19 years ago when I fell off a bike and lost my short term memory for a couple days. I don't think the records still exist and I might not be able to send any evidence of it or that I'm now okay. Some might argue differently...anyway, was wondering if this could disqualify me since I don't have any records of it. Thanks.

Well, this can give you an idea of what the docs are looking at and concerned about, but as always, no one can give you any concrete information until you're thoroughly evaluated by the appropriate medical professionals.

I had the same thing. Closed head injury with amnesia; I had no shrot term memory for several hours and was pretty dingy the next day but I had scads of medical documentation. They may send you for a neurological consult but this is in no way immediately disqualifiying; if they find some damage with CT scan or something that may be an issue but if you demonstrate the requisite aptitude you should be fine. Good on you for coming clean from the start.

Yea, what he said. They will do a neuro consult, maybe a CT scan and go from there. If you are asymptomatic, I expect no problems.

Thanks for the info...I'm trying to contact NAMI and am still waiting to here back about an appointment. I'm just gonna get it (head) examined instead of waiting for my OSO to set that one up and it's not a problem since I'm in Milton. Hoping for OCC-192 on June 4th.

The number 1 Medical lesson I have learned with all my fun applying to the USNA and now USMC PLC is that you should act as if you are perfectly healthy until proven otherwise...10 years out from anything less than your brains getting blow out with a shotgun and reassembled in your skull by the ER will buried soooo deep in medfiles at some backwater hospital that it would take weeks to find, and nobody looks for things they dont know about. If a doc brings something up, you forgot about it cause it was such a nuance thing that really had no effect whatsoever on your life functioning, and the automatic answer too every question is NO, NO, NO! Lol...following that simple rule will save alot of heartache...thats my 2 cents and I will stop ranting now...

That's a good idea. Just don't go through the whole form while not paying attention, I saw five people in five minutes bust the "Are you in good health?" question that was either last or second to last on the form. Dummies...

When I applied to Marine OCS I listed I had a concussion from an ice hockey game a few years back. I was pretty messed up for a day or two, but I found the documents from my family Dr. I took the docs to NASP for my flight physical and I had to go to Neuro. After about 5 questions he said it was no big deal and I went to the next stage. Then the Flight surgeon asked me again about it and I was good to go. I didn't have any loss of conscienceness and my ct scan was good too. I don't see it being a problem.

Just don't tell them you might have ADHD. One of the girls that went with us had to take a 6 hr test to find out if she was crazy.

Jesus Christ, I just realized how lucky I am to pass my flight physical, I was looking at the NOMI standards and saw severe brain injury, permanant DQ. Three years back I was diagnosed with an Epidural Hematoma from a line drive to the head while pitching (baseball). I did not lose conciousness, I did not have any fracture. I went over to a nearby Fire Station to get some ice, and even drove my friends home, but I did have a small bleed, enough to where they had to go in for surgery to drain it. I was back playing baseball within two weeks of having brain surgery and am a lucky SOB. Considering my situation, if I can get flight qualified, everyone should be able to be qualified, just make sure you do not play it up at all. When I was talking with the Flight Surgeon I emphasized that it was not a big deal and was back playing baseball in two weeks. I even had my neurosurgeon write me a letter saying that I was perfectly normal and had a 0% chance of having a seizure. WOW I am lucky. I am one of the rare cases.
