I was trying to line up an interview with a Cryptology Officer, as I thought I should to strengthen my application... however, I was told that the selection board wasn't even reading these interviews anymore, that all I needed was letters of reference for work and character.

Has anyone else heard this??? Is it total BS??? I can't see how an interview with someone in the community i'm trying to enter WOULDN'T help....

Who told you? I know it may be a little different for lat transfers, but you can be sure I included my interview with the CEC Accessions O in my package.

cec is different because an interview is required. for bdcp/ocs interviews WERE or ARE optional. what your recruiter may mean is that for bdcp/ocs people, interviews aren't really looked at. this makes sense for several reasons because not everyone has the means of getting an interview with an officer let alone one in the navy and even one in the community you are applying to and so it constitutes an unfair advantage and are looking at the stuff that everyone is required and able to submit.
Imagine a guy that lives next to an navy base and deals with officers everyday and so is able to get a great officer interview, while a guy in montana that lives no where near anything navy related would have gotten the same marks in an interview if given the oppertunity. That doesn't sound to fair if the selection boards favor the guy with the interview. I wanted an interview and my recruiter said it wasn't done for bdcp/ocs applicants and left it at that. I'm not worried because the lors and employer forms i know, is what really matters.
