community college a no-go?

Add: Also start my Masters in Strat Comm the following March after my Bachelors program...Current Navy qualifications...ESWS/AW/IDW, MASTER TRAINING SPECIALIST in progress right now. Rating: Mass Communication Specialist.

Im an enlisted E5, finish my BA in Strategic Comms next February. Current gpa at school Im getting my Bachelors at is a 4.0. Big question here is that i attended a CC years ago, but finished my associates this year at the current school I am getting my bachelors at. Will my final gpa for my associates be the gpa for that degree, or will they factor each school's gpa together? Shooting to submit my first PAO pkg next year when I finish my bachelors, or would any of you recommend doing it the 9months before I finish my bachelors like they allow? I know I wont be too competitive due to enlisted time in, but would like to show growth over time with work and school...Im 31yo, so PAO is my route. I am aware its competitive! The will average all GPA's together by adding up all GPA credits earned then divide by GPA credits attempted.

You are an MC with a good GPA so you are probably one of the better qualified people here that has said they were going to try for PAO.

Since you are USN AD you must have degree in hand before submitting, only non-AD USN, non-reserve USN, can apply before graduation.
 
Awesome. Well my GPA will likely go down a little with that average but hopefully I can maintain my BA GPA high and then keep it up throughout my Master's. Stufying for the OAR now, so at least I have some time to dissect the gouges. I think math will be my weak point, so hopefully studies will help! I know it's been asked a zillion times, but what do you think would be a good base OAR score to shoot for with a higher gpa. I know higher is better, but I'm not the best math guru. Would a 50 be safe, or is that just the norm?

The OAR just really gets you to the dance, if they need to look at OAR they are digging deep.
 
Hi everybody,

It has been a while since I've posted here, and I wanted to ask a quick GPA question. I am not looking for a long response for this, and know that GPA is a small piece of the pie, but it is something I am working at to help with my current rank (E5) and comparable experience to one that has been longer. The story goes like this....

I never finished my Associate's years ago. When I left that school, I had a 3.0...wasn't much into the whole school thing back then. Fast-forward to now when I have goals of becoming a PAO, and I finished my Associate's at this school "Cum Laude." My cumulative at the school is 3.96. I am currently 6 classes away from my Bachelor's in Strategic Communication, in which I am easily maintaining a 4.0 for the program. That program ends in February, and my Master's in Strat Comm begins in March. Barring any unusual circumstances, I expect my GPA to remain high due to my level of commitment and desire to achieve this goal (or at least increasing the chances anywhere I can). So, the real question is...Since the board (from what I have heard) looks at a cumulative GPA from all colleges attended, my 3.0, 4.0 and 4.0 (just an example for sake of examples and round numbers), would average out to about a 3.7. And while that isn't bad, what I am wondering is if the board will look at each individual degree achievement separately (Cum Laude, Summa Cum Laude, etc.) toward their decision, and if they do, will things like that reflect favorably? I am still preparing for the OAR and striving for around a 50. Advancement exam and MTS have been priority to balancing school effectively.

I know I am beating a dead horse here and nit-picking, but you all have great insight and do offer motivation even in the little things that we aspiring enlisted seek. Thank you in advance for the help.

I assume you are asking these questions with respect to PAO? I'd be willing to bet you can get into OCS very easily with that cum GPA. Would it be the specific community you want, who knows.
 
As a Mass Comm Specialist on the enlisted side, it is the community I strongly desire. I would do anything I had to, though, to make the transition and get into OCS if it meant being PAO eligible at some point later on. I have heard that the PAO board eagerly seeks former enlisted MCs, which makes a lot of sense to me. Just need to pick up rank and keep learning as much as possible from those I know in the community. Thanks for your response.

I think at this point, you only thing you have to do is get outstanding letters of recommendations from your high ups and be a good dude/gal.
