Commissioning Ceremonies

I was just wondering what you all did for your Commissioning Ceremonies? was it big or was it small? where was it? what happend pretty much? I've heard of candidates renting out hotel room banquet rooms for their commissionings.

commissioning ceremony

Here's a basic outline:

When: 1500-1515
Where: Iwo Jima Memorial (easy as I went to college in DC)
Who: dad, mom, brother, girlfriend, OSO, SNCO

Order of events: short little intro speach, Oath of Office, bar pinning, first salute, sign paperwork, finish.

Just went to the bar and then to dinner with the family afterward.

Mine was a backyard, unformal shorts and flip-flops type of deal. We had beer and BBQ afterward. I was in favor of skipping the formalities and getting straight to the good stuff. My commissioning officer kicked ass - made it a great ceremony. It was a nice time...
