Choose Whiting Field or Corpus?

Hope I don't get flamed here...

I did use the search function and couldn't get a good answer for what I was looking for. I recently (last Fri) found out that I was Pro Rec'd for SNA, my question is: after API, what determines whether you go to Whiting or Corpus? I am trying to stay in FL (I own a house in Jacksonville) so was wondering what the deal is for Primary... also out of primary is where you get and idea of what platform you will be flying right? Any help here is appreciated..

If you are married you will probably go to Whiting. If you are single you will probably go to Corpus. Some single guys get randomly pulled to go to Vance. These are only tendencies though because I am single and didn't end up in Corpus. There is no sure bet.

At the end of primary you will select either tailhook, helo or P-3/E-6.

Easy commute. Good luck.

Lol yeah right. 5 hours right? At least my wife can stay in the house and I can visit some weekends. The E-6 community... sounds tough to get into... is it? I really want to fly big planes, maybe a C-40, P-3, I don't know... I would figure most of the young kids would want F-18s... what do you guys think?

Everyone wants 18's. . .at least, when they start.

E-6's? It's a small community, but all 3 people I have known who wanted it, got it.

VT-2 at Whiting Field has an outstanding command climate. I recommend it to anyone who has the opportunity to go.

So do you get a say in whether you go to Whiting or Corpus or not? I understand for P-3s I would end up in Corpus eventually but I guess I am trying to delay so that I can keep my house for as long as possible (or rent it for as short as possible) and maybe be able to come back to Jax....

I'd recommend searching the site. All of the questions you've asked have been asked before......repeatedly. You can make a request, but don't get a "say," per se.

Since your special lady is staying in Jax anyway, and you know if the P-3 thing works out you'll be going to Corpus for Advanced, what's the point of trying to go Whiting for Primary? If you think you'll be out of the squadron by noon every Friday, drive to Jax for the weekend, and back late Sunday night, you're going to be disappointed. The Navy cares not for your plans or domestic bliss.

If you're thinking she'll drive to you every weekend, I-10 gets old real damn quick, and you better pray the price of oil collapses in the meantime.

Just go to Corpus and do the geo-bach thing. A few more months apart is nothing in the Navy grand scheme of things, you wouldn't get that much time together in Whiting anyway, and it'll save you a move.

I did the Whiting to Jax commute on the weekends last year....it sucked but it can be done.

That's pretty sage advice...trying to make an elaborate house of cards with the hopes you have for your house, woman, pipeline, and oh yeah...just making it through flight school is not setting yourself up for anything resembling success. Something in you plans has to give- I'm betting it'll be a choice that gives you the best shot at wings.

Thanks guys, just trying to get an idea of how stuff works. I know I can't predict where I'm gonna be that far in advance but the way the housing market is right now I would love to keep my house as long as possible... I haven't decided if I will rent it out yet. Anyhow, now I kinda know what the deal is and I can prepare myself for that next step. Thanks guys.
